Is there a speeding problem in Gatlinburg?

The residential neighborhood speed limit is 25 mph, but its clear that on Gatlinburg’s main streets, namely Gatlinburg, Dove Haven, and Pigeon Forge, people drive much faster. Have you witnessed this yourself? I sure have since I live on Pigeon Forge. On Gatlinburg Drive the speeding seems more dangerous because it has curves and residents park on both sides of Gatlinburg Drive. People have also told me about near misses on Dove Haven and how they worry about their children getting hit.

What to Do?

If you see the same car driving fast all the time, write down the make and license plate, and find out where they live. Next, put a politely worded letter stating the speed limit, that you think they drive faster, and please slow down etc. taped to their front door or car addressed to Dear Neighbor” and signed “Concerned Parent and Neighbor.” I know they won’t like this, but most people will at least know that someone cares and is watching their behavior.

Your next option is to call the Pflugerville Police at 251-4004 and request a S.T.E.P., which stand for Special Traffic Enforcement Program. Have you seen the radar activated sign with the large numbers posting your miles per hour under the actual speed limit? You can also expect to see officers giving out traffic tickets later when the sign isn’t around.
