We deserve an award for our trees!

I just completed my morning walk around Gatlinburg and was struck by the fact that nearly every home has at least two large trees, not to mention bushes and small trees. We have an awesome tree-loving, GREEN, neighborhood. Which makes me wonder if Gatlinburg would qualify as one, if not the first place, neighborhood with the most, and largest, trees in Pflugerville?

We Deserve an Award!

Is there a national, Texas, or Pflugerville program that awards recognition to neighborhoods for their tree care? It might be an extension of a city or community award given by a national group.

Trees Add Value to a Home

Can you think of a way Gatlinburg as a neighborhood and homeowners could market our tree quantity and quality? I think it would lead to better home prices and encourage home owners to invest in good, professional tree trimming, not a small expense either I might add!  I count quite a few Arizona Ash with dead limbs and overgrowth. Everyone seems to invest in new roofing after storms but ignore the importance of good TREE trimming for prevention. Are there city or utility programs providing grants to elderly and low/middle-income homeowners to do their tree care?

All these ideas ran through my head and I just wanted to share them with you. What do you think? Looking forward to your comments. You can also vote on this idea and others at Gatlinburg’s discussion forum.
